The U.S.-Canada trade relationship is the largest in world history.

“Worthwhile Canadian Initiative,” the title of an 1986 op/ed by New York Times columnist Flora Lewis, won the New Republic’s vote as the most boring headline in the 400-year history of English-language journalism. The actual W.C.I. was the U.S.-Canada Free Trade Agreement of 1988. A quarter-century later, Canada accounts for a seventh of all U.S. trade and the U.S.-Canadian trade relationship is the largest in world history.
